A SENIOR pastor of Kings Chapel Church has been dragged to court for committing adultery with a married woman of his church.
Pastor Nicholas Chungu, 38, a widower of Chawama, was taken to court by James Lundu, 34, of the same township for having an affair with his wife, Mary Mwenda, 26.
Lundu told senior court magistrates Martha Tembo and Kalunga Chansa that he discovered their pastor, Chungu, was committing adultery with his wife after he found love text messages in his wife’s phone from the ‘man of God’.
But Pastor Chungu told the court that the messages found on Mwenda’s phone were intended for another lover he named as “Gloria” but were accidentally sent to Lundu’s wife by his son, who was playing with his mobile phone. No explanation was given as to how he got Mary’s number.
Lundu, who presented his wife’s phone to the court to read out the text messages, said it was difficult to believe that the messages were sent by mistake, especially that they were sent on several different occasions.
In one of the text messages, Pastor Chungu wrote: “I will give you the best love of your dreams. Maybe you think I am pretending, no, I am not married. I am now single, I am so into you. God should protect you until I marry you. I will love you until you cry but I will satisfy you in everything. You have made me mad emotionally sweetie; I love you, good day.”
Another text message sent around 22:00 hours read in part: “Sorry, I went to bath because I have a sharp headache. I am feeling sick. I will love you, I love you.”
In his statement, Pastor Chungu denied ever being in a love relationship with Lundu’s wife.
“Lundu’s wife is in fact the one who started spreading rumours immediately after we buried my wife that I had proposed marriage to her when in fact not. How can I propose marriage to a married woman?” Pastor Chungu asked.
He said before his wife died, Lundu’s wife pretended to be a caring person who spent most of her time by his late wife’s bedside when she was sick.
“I sometimes had to ask her to leave because I knew she also had a family to take care of instead of spending all her time with my sick wife. During her visitations, she would come dressed inappropriately, sometimes wearing mini-dresses or skirts, a situation that caused my wife to eventually confront her,” the clergyman said.
He said Lundu’s wife even started asking his son how he would feel if his father married her and insisted on knowing which other females visited him.
But when asked by the court how messages meant for his lover were always accidentally sent to Lundu’s wife, Pastor Chungu failed to give any convincing explanation except blaming it on his Blackberry phone.
However, Lundu’s wife, Mary, told the court that Pastor Chungu proposed marriage to her in December 2011 and further promised to marry her.
“We started having sex in August 2012. The first time we did it around 20:00 hours in

area in an open ground. The second time we had sex was in my home when my husband was away.
After that, we then started going to Blue Water Motel in Chawama every Monday. We were using room number seven,” Mary said.
She said her relationship with Pastor Chungu ended when her husband, Lundu, found out.
The court adjourned judgment pending scene visit to the Blue Water Motel, where the duo is purported to have been enjoying their trysts from.
