FORUM for Democracy and Development party launches the neighbor’s friend youth empowerment program which will see the planting of 250,000 plants in Zambia. FDD Party President Edith Nawakwi disclosed this during a press briefing at the party secretariat, she said 50 thousand plants costing about Kr 600,000 have been ordered for from Vietnam who are the producers of best timber in the world. “We decided to order from Vietnam because they have the best seed and are the best producer of good and quality timber in the world, some of the timber we have in Zambia is from the first seed the first republican President Dr. Kaunda ordered years back, we want to create jobs for the young people through this program,” Nawakwi said. “In this program we have four university graduates from the school of forestry who have come up with an association called the Eco-rest youth foundation, which we will support, the four will receive practical training in the forestry industry so that they open their own nursery for trees and create employment for other youths in the same field,” she added. Nawakwi said the program will not only create employment but help the country in making it green and help replant the worn out forests in the country, and be able to supply timber to other neighboring countries and generate income hence creating employment for the youths in the country. And program coordinator George Phiri said he is hopeful that the program will help not only the youths in the country but the nation as whole and urged all the youths interested in the program and have other ideas to visit their secretariat in Lusaka.
