The Government is sending teams of British accountants to developing countries to tackle corruption and improve financial standards.
The teams will be sent to countries including Zambia, Nigeria and Ethiopia to share British expertise, the Department for International Development said.
The department has also committed £4.5 million to the International Federation of Accountants to help up to 10 countries in Africa and Asia develop their own professional institutions.
International Development Secretary Justine Greening, a former accountant, said: ” The UK’s financial sector is second to none and its skills and experience can boost development across the world.
“By helping developing countries to manage their own resources better and attract investment we can create the jobs and growth needed to lift people out of poverty.”
The first deployments of British chartered accountants will begin in May.
A team from the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants will train the Ethiopian education ministry in accountancy practice.
The Institute of Chartered Accountants England and Wales team will review Zambia’s audit regulation to ensure it complies with latest international accounting systems.
Experts from the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy will train official bodies in Nigeria to stop corruption in government procurement.
