THREE people have died while eight others have sustained injuries in a road traffic accident which happened about 40Km from Mporokoso district.
Police spokesperson Charity Munganga-Chanda in a statement stated that the deceased include the driver Joseph Simwamba, Steven Kabwe and a grade two pupil from Mwita primary school who were passengers.
“The accident happened when the driver of a Toyota Hilux Reg. No. ALT 9002 failed to keep to his lane and hit into an on-coming Toyota sprinter Reg. No. APB 479 which had seven passengers on board. The accident happened along the Kasama-Mporokoso road on 8th September 2015 around 11:30 hours,” Mrs. Munganga-Chanda stated.
She stated that the bodies of the deceased were in Mporokoso district hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem while the injured receiving treatment in the same hospital.
Mrs. Munganga-Chanda stated that the driver of the Hilux was in police custody and had been charged with three counts of causing death by dangerous driving.
She said the driver of the Hilux would appear in court soon.
