POLICE in Kitwe have arrested five members of a gang of suspected copper thieves commonly known as jerabos for allegedly attacking two people from a rival group and stabbing one in the buttocks.
The suspects also got away with K7,000 cash from one of the victims whom they battered when they went to check on their machinery at a slag dump called Black Mountain in Wusakile.
After being beaten, the victims went to Kitwe Central Hospital (KCH) to seek treatment but the suspects followed them and continued with the assault, stabbing one in the buttocks.
Copperbelt deputy commissioner of police Byemba Musole said in an interview that the incident happened on Monday at 18:30 hours.
He said police have arrested the suspects and charged them with aggravated robbery.
Mr Musole identified the suspects as Charles Bupe, Simeon Kalobo, Kelvin Tembo, Junior Tembo and a man only identified as Gift, all of Kitwe.

He identified one of the victims as Terry Kayamba, who is admitted to KCH.
