The ruling Patriotic Front says the charitable works done by the First Lady Esther Lungu is not an early campaign for President Edgar Lungu.
In a statement made available to QFM News today, PF Media Committee Vice Chairperson Sunday Chanda says the accusation by the Post Newspapers that the First Lady is busy campaigning for President Lungu should be condemned by all Zambians.
Mr. Chanda explains that Zambians recall that each of the past First Ladies did similar charitable works in their own capacities.
He furthermore explains that First ladies the world over play a critical role in supporting their spouses, this includes the United States of America where US First lady Michelle Obama is leading a campaign against Obesity.
He says former US First lady Laura Bush was equally involved in noble causes.
He adds that Zambians remember the role former First lady Vera Chiluba played in placing Shang’ombo on the map, including the operation of Siamese twins.
Mr. Chanda states that Mrs. Maureen Mwanawasa ran the Maureen Mwanawasa Community Initiative and Zambians remember her involvement with the Global Fund, among others.
The PF Media Committee Vice Chairman furthermore states that former First lady Thandiwe Banda was also doing a lot of charity work with the vulnerable and the same goes for Former First lady Dr. Christine Kaseba who championed the pink ribbon campaign, an initiative to raise awareness around Cervical Cancer.
He says at no time did the Post Newspaper condemn Dr. Kaseba’s works on grounds that there exists a Ministry of Health in the Country because it there would have been no need for that.
He has since condemned what he has termed as hypocrisy and malice by sections of the media targeted at First lady Esther Lungu.
