Road works within and around the Luapula Province

Today I wish to share with you our Government’s progress on the construction of selected road works within and around the Luapula Province. As of December 2013 a total of 2,224 jobs were created during the on-going construction works of 1,919km of roads which is costing a total K1.8 billion as follows:

1. Periodic maintenance of 323km of the road D235 from T2 junction via Mukuku bridge and sections of Samfya to Mansa road: works 100% complete;

2. Upgrading of the Pedicle road to Bituminous Standard: works on-going at 28% progress;

3. Periodic maintenance of approximately 91km of road from Mansa to Chembe: works on-going at 91% progress;

Road works within and around the Luapula Province4. Rehabilitation of the Kawambwa-Mushota-Luwingu road and the Chisembe-Chibote-Chief Chama road in Luapula Province: works on-going at 12% progress;

5. Construction of the 175km Mansa-Luwingu: works on-going at 14% progress;

6. Rehabilitation of 238k of Mansa feeder roads: works on-going at 30%progress;

7. Construction of Luamfumu Bridge in Mwense District: works on-going at 70% progress;

8. Construction of Mashimi Community Road and Installation of Culverts: works on-going at 85% progress;

9. Construction of Lukwesa – Nchilamundi road: works on-going at 70% progress;

10. Construction of Kamipundu Road and embarkment construction: works on-going at 80% progress;

11. Construction of the Mansa to Chansa road section of the Matanda: works on-going at 50% progress;

12. Rehabilitation of Chipete Matanda: works on-going at 20% progress;

The construction of roads is aimed at establishing an enabling investment climate in order to attract foreign direct investment (FDI), stimulate local investments and create jobs. MCS- 09/03/14
