Petauke Boarding Secondary school reopens on Monday

Chipata, May 23, ZANIS ——-Eastern Province Education officer (PEO) Thomas Mwanza says his ministry will re-open Petauke boarding School which was closed due to poor sanitation next week Monday following the recommendation by the Ministry of Health.

Mr Mwanza said the school would reopen next week on the 27th May, 2013 after meeting the acceptable standard set by the Ministry of Health.

The Provincial Education Officer was speaking to journalist shortly after the launch of the keep Chipata Clean Campaign in Chipata district this morning.

The PEO said the school was closed last month following an order from Petauke Magistrate due to unsanitary condition which posed a health hazard to pupils and teachers at the school.

Mr Mwanza said that the Ministry of Education has spent KR 200 000 to carry out rehabilitation works adding that  VIP latrines,  rehabilitation of the ablution blocks, repairing of  water pipes, replacement of window panes and electrical fitting  have so far been done.

”After meeting the closure order we invited a team from the Ministry of Health to inspect the school, it was after the inspection that they considered reopening the school,” he said.

He has however called on parents to ensure that they prepare their children adequately in readiness for reopening of the school next week.

Mr Mwanza stated that there was need for parents to ensure that pupils were provided with boarding fees to avoid disturbing them during lessons if sent away due to non payment of the required fees.
