One person died on the spot when a house collapsed on her in yesterday’s rain storm experienced in Lusaka.
The deceased has not yet been identified.
President Edgar Lungu has since visited the funeral house of the victim and described the incident as a disaster.
President Lungu also visited other affected houses in Bauleni, as well as ZNBC Twin-Palm transmitters, on Leopards Hill road.
He said routine maintenance is lacking in most of the structures destroyed by the rain storm.
President Lungu added that building owners must engage in routine maintenance, as well as explore other compensatory mechanism for damaged property, such as insurance.
The President has also directed the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit -DMMU and other relevant authorities, to be proactive to prevent such incidences.
He said the DMMU will advise government on how help can be extended to the victims.
The President has also visited other victims of the incident, who are admitted to Bauleni clinic.
