ABOUT six families in Mkushi, Central Province have been left homeless after their houses collapsed due to heavy rains on Sunday.
Mkushi District Commissioner Luka Mwamba said the six families in the district had their houses collapse after a heavy downpour and they need assistance.
Mr Mwamba said the affected families were now living in tents and had most of their properties damaged by the rains after roofs of the houses were blown off.
“On Sunday the district recorded its first rains but unfortunately it left six houses damaged and the families stranded as their houses collapsed, the only good part is that no one was hurt when it happened”, Mr Mwamba said.
He said the families were now in need of financial and material support and were depending on well-wishers.
He also said the district had received more than 3,000 x 10kilogramme bags of maize seed to be distributed to the farmers under the Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP).
Mr Mwamba said the district was expecting more seed next week and that distribution of the farming inputs would commence next week as logistics were being put in place to ensure they were distributed on time.
“I want to take this opportunity to inform the farmers on the FISP that the district has received farming inputs for the 2015-2016 farming season,”he said.
