PATRIOTIC Front (PF) secretary-general Davies Chama has warned of disciplinary action against members who have started illegal campaigns to seek adoption as members of Parliament (MP) in Kabwe because President Lungu has not dissolved Parliament.
Mr Chama said members aspiring to contest parliamentary seats on the PF ticket in the 2016 general elections should be patient and wait for the adoption process to start.
“What they are doing is highly illegal and total indiscipline. It is premature for anyone to start campaigning. They will be disciplined and dealt with,” Mr Chama warned in an interview yesterday.
Mr Chama was reacting to reports that some members have allegedly been campaigning for adoption for the Kabwe Central parliamentary seat.
Mr Chama said he is aware of what is happening in Kabwe but that the ruling party leadership will not tolerate divisive activities.
“I want to urge our members to be patient and allow sitting MPs to do their work. These campaigns are premature and unacceptable.”
And Kabwe Central member of Parliament (MP) James Kapyanga said while he respects the democratic rights of his fellow PF members, it is disappointing that some individuals are campaigning against him.
“There are a lot of people who want to stand but I can’t bar them but to each and every situation, there are rules and regulations and at the moment, I am the incumbent MP for Kabwe Central and I was given a mandate from 2011 to 2016 to work,” Mr Kapyanga said.
“What has been happening in Kabwe, especially from the people within my party, is very disturbing because the activities that have been going on have not been checked. They have gone noticed but not answered,” Mr Kapyanga said.
