A TWENTY-THREE-YEAR-OLD man of Lusaka’s John Laing Township has been arrested for allegedly stabbing his 20-year-old brother with a knife over a K20 debt.
Collins Banda was arrested yesterday and detained at Chawama Police Station over the death of his young brother Christopher who died at Chawama Health Centre.
Lusaka Province Police chief Charity Katanga said Collins had been charged with murder while the body of his brother was at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) mortuary.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Collins borrowed K20 from his brother but failed or delayed to pay back.
“Now it is like Christopher wanted his money but the elder brother became annoyed and took a knife and stabbed him in the back near the kidney.
“The victim was rushed to Chawama Clinic but he was pronounced dead upon arrival and the Police moved in to arrest the brother who is currently in custody at Chawama Police, and we are keeping the knife as evidence,” Ms Katanga said.
Meanwhile Police spokesperson Charity Chanda said investigations had continued to establish how the presidential speech delivered by President Edgar Lungu to Parliament was leaked to the media before the actual day of presentation.
Ms Chanda said it was, however, difficult at the current stage to state who had been interrogated among Government officials because that would jeopardise the investigations.
“What I can say for now is that the investigations are very active but we cannot divulge details as to who is being investigated because this could jeopardise our investigations,” she said.
President Lungu’s speech was leaked to the media and published before he addressed the Fifth Session of the Eleventh National Assembly on September 18, this year.
