President Edgar Lungu says government is looking at measures to address the challenges facing the economy.
President Lungu says the opposition has been spreading lies that government is not interested in the economy.
The president says as Head of State, he is aware of the state of the nation.
President Lungu says the price of copper on the international market has gone down, leading to mining companies considering closing down and laying off their workers.
He said the situation is not only happening in Zambia but in other countries in the region such as Democratic Republic of Congo -DRC- that also depend on copper.
President Lungu has explained that it is for this reason that he has directed the FRA and other relevant authorities to export the maize and bring into the country the much needed foreign exchange.
He said government will buy all the maize from farmers and export it because most countries in the region have no food.
The president said it is sad that the opposition are claiming that they will open up more mine companies if voted into power.
President Lungu was speaking at a rally in Luwingu Boma to drum up support for PF candidate in the Lubansenshi by election George Mwamba.
Other speakers were PF Central Committee members Samuel Mukupa, Northern province minister Freedom Sikazwe, among others.
And President Lungu has called on road contractors to uphold quality in their works.
The president says it is not good for road contractors to rush their works by beating the deadline, yet the works are poor.
The Head of State says he wants to see quality in all the road works so that the roads should stand the test of time.
President Lungu was speaking in Luwingu this morning when he inspected the 242 million US Dollars 175 kilometer Mansa-Luwingu road project being undertaken by China Henan.
And the president called on road contractors to empower Zambians, especially women.
He says this is because government has taken a deliberate step to empower women with various projects.
And Monjit Saha, the Resident Engineer for the road project said the contractor is six months ahead of schedule.
He explained to the president that the contractor has engaged in many community projects.
