-The first ever Association for Travel media writers and journalists have today been formed and launched in Lusaka, Zambia.
The association which is known as the Travel Media Association of Zambia has incorporated journalists, travel writers and media practitioners from the print, electronic and online media.
The association whose aim is to promote responsible journalism and encourage the conservation and perseveration of travel resources has been formed with the help of the society of American Travel Writers of North America.
Livingstone International University of Tourism Excellence and Business Management founder and Vice Chancellor Patrick Kalifungwa said the initiative should be supported and embraced by all the stakeholders in the tourism industry.
Professor Kalifungwa who is also the association Patron noted that the newly formed association of travel writers will be pre-eminent a professional organisation of travel communicators.
The Patron cautioned members of the association against unprofessional conducts that include accepting cash and any other forms of payment in exchange for positive editorial coverage.
He hoped that the association will provide dynamic and positive interface with Tourism stakeholders and both the Ministries of Information and Tourism and Arts who have collaborated with the Zambia Tourism Board and the University to incorporate the association.
Journalists, media practitioners and writers from public and private media organisations and the Tourist Board attended the two day conference which culminated into the formation of the association.
Participants of the conference were trained in areas such as how to use Photoshop, how to write for international and local audiences, social media news , responsible news writing meant to add value to marketing tourism and usage of social media.
