Kampambe-Katiula road works commence

–Works on the Kampambe-Katiula road in Katete which had not been graded for over 40 years have commenced.

Speaking when he toured the project this morning Katete District Commissioner  Peter Kaisa was happy  at the manner the project was progressing.

The District Commissioner who found workers on site was hopeful that the project will finish on time.

He noted that Kampambe- Katiula areas where mostly farming blocks which needed a good network for farmers to sale their produce.

He added that with the face lift that the road will undergo government was hopeful that the lives the of people in these two areas will improve.

Col Kaisa however challenged the Rural Roads Unit to speed up the works as the rain season would  soon start.

Government has set aside K1 million to be spent on the Kampambe-Katiula road which has not had a face lift since the UNIP government.

The 16 kilometer road project is being undertaken by the Rural Roads Unit (RRU) and is expected to be completed in two months.

Briefing the District Commissioner on site,  Michael Lungu who represented the Site Engineer said the Rural Roads Unit has since graded about 2.5 kilometers of the road and putting on both sides drainages for smooth water passage during the rainy season.

Mr. Lungu said the RRU has since employed about 16 casual workers from the two areas.

In response to the District Commissioners plea , Mr. Lungu said the RRU was hopeful that the project would  be completed before the onset of the rains.
