Former Zambian Ambassador to Russia John Chimunya Sikaulu has described the late Dr Peter Matoka as a gallant diplomat, veteran politician, freedom fighter and academician.
Mr Sikaulu who succeeded the late Dr Matoka as High Commissioner to Zimbabwe said the deceased served his country with passion.
Mr Sikaulu who was speaking in an interview with ZANIS at the funeral house today challenged youths in Zambia to emulate Dr Matoka.
“We’ve lost a gallant person in the name of Dr Matoka. I took over from him as High Commissioner and he was a good friend indeed,” said Sikaulu.
Other prominent people who visited the funeral house today included former republican vice president Enock Kavindele and former Inspector General of Police Ephraim Mateyo.
Vice President Dr Guy Scott is this afternoon expected to visit the funeral house located at Plot 29B Mosi road in Lusaka’s Ibex Hill residential area.
The late freedom fighter, veteran politician and academician died on Friday September 12 aged 86 around 04:30 hours at the University Teaching Hospital where he was admitted.
He served in the first post-independence Cabinet of the UNIP government and was also a Member of the Central Committee before embarking on a diplomatic career.
