Mr. Milupi says the excessive powers vested in the presidency under the current constitution have created a monster in the office of republican president.

Mr. Milupi has told QFM News in an interview that it is for this and other reasons that the sixteen opposition political party leaders that form part of the Grand Coalition on the constitution are hopeful that President Michael Sata will see the need to engage in dialogue on the constitution.

He says as opposition they are concerned that President Sata has not responded to their request for dialogue on the constitution despite a follow up to the first letter being sent to him.

Mr. Milupi says as opposition parties they believe dialogue will create a platform where political stakeholders will sit on a round table to discuss the way forward on the constitution.

The ADD leader has however warned that should the country go to the 2016 general election under the current constitution, opposition leaders will be forced to field one candidate to challenge President Sata and win the election.

Meanwhile Mr. Milupi has challenged government to a make public statement over Vedanta Chairman Anil Agarwal’s revelations that Konkola Copper Mines has been making a minimum profit of $500 million per year continuously.

Mr. Milupi says such revelations are a wakeup call to government that whatever friendship it has with the mines in the country it should be mindful that it owes it to the Zambian people to reintroduce windfall tax.
