–Namwala District Commissioner, Gevar Nsanzya, says the Patriotic Front government under the leadership of President Michael Sata is committed to make sure that quality health care is delivered to its citizens including the remotes parts of Zambia.
Mr Nsanzya said this in Namwala District during the province World Malaria Day held in Chitongo area of Namwala district in Chief Nalubamba’s area.
He said the Ministry of Community Development, Mother and Child Health (MCDMCH) in the district will embark on a door-to-door distribution of treated mosquito nets to about 68,600 households.
The DC said this intervention of preventing malaria once embarked and combined with other interventions will greatly help fight the killer disease in the district.
And speaking at the same function, Southern Province Provincial Medical Officer, Jelita Chinyonga, said government and its partners are tirelessly working to fight malaria.
Dr Chinyonga noted that community involvement is very cardinal in malaria programs.
She said there is a reduction in malaria cases in Southern Province from 22.2 per thousand to 17.2 per thousand in the province.
And Senior Chief Bright Nalubamba has commended World Vision-Zambia (WVZ) for supplementing malaria programs in his chiefdom.
He said World Vision-Zambia has been supplementing a lot of government programs since it came in the district.
The chief has since warned people against abusing mosquito nets through fishing and other methods to desist from such vices.
Meanwhile World Vision Provincial Representative, Matrida Mukombo, said t Zambia has made a significant improvement in health and basic service provision in children’s health.
Ms Mukombo, however said a lot still needs to be done despite success scored by Zambia in fighting malaria.
She disclosed that in the last two years World Vision Zambia has continued to partner with the government and has distributed 1,283,000 mosquito nets in majority households in its areas of operation in Zambia and yet utilization still remains a biggest challenge due to various reasons.
Ms Mukombo said scaling up use of mosquito nets is one of the major priorities of the World Vision malaria control strategies.
