THE MMD is today expected to suspend Lusaka Province youth chairperson Scorpion Kadobi and Lusaka District chairperson Nathan Mwanza for issuing disparaging remarks against senior party officials.
Their imminent suspension follows the joint media statement they issued on Tuesday accusing senior party officials of holding “dark corner” meetings to strategise on toppling MMD president Nevers Mumba.
Mr Kadobi and Mr Mwanza in a statement they issued together with Northern Region Die-Hard youth chairperson, Given Ziba accused the two MMD vice-presidents Michael Kaingu and Brian Chituwo of being among the group attempting to unseat Dr Mumba from power.
Other top officials implicated in the alleged attempt to topple Dr Mumba are former Petauke Central Member of Parliament (MP) Dora Siliya, former Solwezi MP, Lucky Mulusa and Kapembwa Simbao of Senga Hill Constituency.
Speaking in an interview in Lusaka yesterday, MMD acting national secretary Chembe Nyangu said he would go ahead to suspend Mr Kadobi and Mr Mwanza.
Mr Nyangu, however, said he would not charge Mr Ziba as the Die-Hard youth wing he purportedly belonged to was an illegal entity.
“I am drafting letters of suspension. I am suspending the two, Scorpion Kadobi and Nathan Mwanza because they are in the party hierarchy.
“They will be suspended for disparaging senior leaders in the Press and it’s an offence. Matters of the party must be resolved within the party; they don’t go to the Press. So what have they resolved now by going to the Press? They have actually ignited fire,” he said.
When contacted for comment, Mr Kadobi maintained that he was ready to be suspended.
He said the suspension would not deter him from talking about party matters as long as he remained an MMD member.
“I don’t care about that letter,” he said.
