Kasumbalesa Border Post in Chililabombwe has returned to normal

THE situation at Kasumbalesa Border Post in Chililabombwe has returned to normal with the recent truck congestion now over.
The truck congestion at the border post followed the killing of two truck drivers in separate incidences within a space of one week
sparking protest among drivers who boycotted crossing into the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Hundreds of trucks became marooned on both sides of the border with those on the Zambian side forming a queue covering a distance all the way to Chililabombwe Town.
Zambia Revenue Authority Kasumbalesa station manager Levy Simatimbe said in an interview yesterday that the situation had now normalised.
“The congestion at the border has ended and the situation has normalised following the measures we had put in place to decongest the
border post,” he said.
Mr Simatimbe said among the measures that were put in place by border authorities was deploying of extra staff as well as increasing
operation hours by extending closing time from the previous 18:00 hours to 20:00 hours.
He said Zambian border authorities had also asked their DRC counterparts to open a fast-track lane for pre-cleared and empty.
