UTH recorded 1,225 defilement cases in 2013

The University Teaching Hospital (UTH) recorded one thousand two hundred and twenty five (1,225) cases of defilement in the year 2013.

UTH Public Relations Officer, Mwenya Mulenga, has told QFM News in an interview that the highest referral hospital in the country recorded three hundred and nine (309) cases of defilement in the first quarter of 2013.

Mr. Mulenga says the institution recorded five hundred and ninety (590) cases of child defilement from January to July, 2013.

He states that most cases of defilement involved children aged between eleven and fifteen years, an indication that this is the age group mostly at risk of being defiled.

Mr. Mulenga states that the figures are alarming considering the fact that cases of child defilement have continued to occur despite many sensitization programs put in place to ensure that people desist from such evil vices.

He has since clarified that the figures are based on the cases reported to the institution and do not include those cases not reported.
