MAZABUKA Mayor Lloyd Buumba has called for speedy investigations and arrest of suspected United Party for National Development (UPND) cadres who assaulted Police officers during a fundraising braai last weekend.
Some suspected UPND cadres in Mazabuka beat up Police officers deployed to maintain law and order at the party’s fundraising braai attended by party leader Hakainde Hichilema and other senior officials.
Mr Buumba, who is UPND Southern Province vice-chairperson, was among senior party officials summoned by Police to help with investigations into the fracas.
He said in an interview yesterday that the law enforcement agencies should not spare cadres who stirred violence because nobody was above the law.
Mr Buumba said as a civic leader, he would not want to see people causing violence in Mazabuka, which he described as peaceful.
He said the suspected UPND cadre identified as Albert Tembo, 37, of Lubombo Ward within Mazabuka, who was arrested in connection with the violence, was not even part of the fundraising braai.
