The Republican Vice President Guy Scott has already assured the nation that the final draft constitution, whose ceremonial printing has begun by the printing of only 10 of its copies, will be released to the nation in December this year.
The Zambian Voice is however of the view that if President Michael Sata ensures that the country’s new constitution is enacted before the 2016 general election his name will go down into the country’s history as he will have accomplished what other past Presidents had failed to achieve.
Executive Director Chilufya Tayali says President Sata will also have the support of the Zambian people if he ensures that the country has a new supreme law that reflects their aspirations and wishes.
Mr. Tayali says Mr. Sata has nothing to lose if he ensures that the country owns a people driven constitution before the year 2016 because he is already President and that by fulfilling the promise of a people driven constitution it will also act as campaign for his re-election.
Mr. Tayali has observed that contentious articles such as the 50 1 in the new constitution will not even be a barrier for Mr. Sata’s re-election because people will rally behind him because he will have gained their supports and confidence by giving them a people driven constitution.
Mr. Tayali has projected that President Sata can even get more than 80 percent majority of the people’s votes for his re-election if he ensures that a people driven constitution is in place before the 2016 general elections.
Mr. Tayali was speaking in an interview with Qfm.
