Ngoma goes back to education
By JIMMY CHIBUYE
PRESIDENT Sata has appointed newly-elected Patriotic Front (PF) Feira member of Parliament (MP) Patrick Ngoma as Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Vocational Training and Early Education.
Mr Ngoma’s appointment is with immediate effect.
This is according to President Sata’s letter to Mr Ngoma dated June 24, 2013 copied to Vice-President Guy Scott, Speaker of the National Assembly Patrick Matibini and Secretary to the Cabinet Roland Msiska, among others.
This is contained in a statement issued in Lusaka yesterday by special assistant to the President for press and public relations George Chellah.
“In line with the PF manifesto, we will keep on prioritising the education sector and provide opportunities that will facilitate substantial growth and qualitative improvement in the education and training system of our country,” President Sata said.
He is confident that Mr Ngoma will perform to his expectation and that of Zambians in general.
President Sata maintained that his Government will continue taking practical steps to revitalise the education sector.
Mr Ngoma won the Feira parliamentary by-election by more than 70 percent.
He amassed an unassailable lead with 3,579 votes against the combined opposition vote of 1,692.
UPND candidate Eularia Zulu polled 967 votes and MMD’s Elias Phiri polled 617 votes.
Charles Kanyama of the UNIP had 344 votes and NAREP’s Samuel Sikaonga had 63 votes. The seat was previously held by the MMD with Mr Ngoma as its MP before he resigned to join the PF.
