THE Patriotic Front (PF) has predicted a landslide victory in the June 20 Feira by-election, which is being contested by four other political parties.
The Feira seat fell vacant when MMD member of Parliament Patrick Ngoma resigned to join the PF.
PF campaign manager for the Feira by-election Edgar Lungu said in an interview from Kanyenzi on the banks of the Zambezi River in Feira yesterday that the ruling party has done its work and is just waiting for polling day.
“We are set here [in Feira]….we are winning by 90 percent of the votes. Ten percent will be shared by MMD, UPND, UNIP and NAREP,” Mr Lungu, who is Minister of Home Affairs, said.
He said PF officials have interacted with the electorate in Feira who have expressed appreciation for the development projects the party has executed in the constituency.
Mr Lungu said his team will leave no stone unturned to ensure that every vote is captured to guarantee victory for the PF.
“Where we are in Kanyenzi, the polling centre has only 35 voters. We want to get each and every vote because we believe that every vote counts,” he said.
Mr Lungu said campaigns have been generally peaceful despite some political parties conducting dirty campaigns.
Meanwhile, MMD president Nevers Mumba said campaigns for the Feira by-election have been positive.
Dr Mumba said voters have been responding well to messages from MMD.
“I am very happy with what I have found here,” he said from Feira yesterday.
UPND deputy secretary-general Kuchunga Simusamba said his party has done “careful campaigns” and is sure of taking the seat.
“The campaigns are promising. Feira is our seat and we are getting it,” he said.
Mr Simusamba also complained of pockets of violence during the campaigns.
The PF is contesting the seat through Mr Ngoma while NAREP is fielding Charles Sikaonga.
The MMD is fielding Elias Phiri, the UPND has Eularia Zulu while UNIP is fielding Charles Kanyama.
