Top officials at Zambia Postal Services Corporation (Zampost) have been suspended with immediate effect to pave way for investigations into misappropriation of funds that has forced some donors to suspend social cash transfer aid to Zambia.
Zampost board chairman Musenga Musukwa who announced the suspensions in a statement, said that a special board meeting was held and resolved to suspend, Post Master General McPherson Chanda, director of finance Best Mwaichi, director of operations Isaac Kamwimba and assistant director operations Moses Musonda for the period not less than 6 months from execution of official duties.
“The board further resolved to appoint an interim management team for the corporation comprising of Bright Ngoma as Postmaster General, Stanley Phiri as director operations and Dorothy Mulenga as finance director,” Mr Musukwa said This follows the suspension of aid by the UK government and other donor countries citing the abuse of funds meant for the social cash transfer scheme which was being administered by the ministry of community development to benefit vulnerable groups. President Edgar Lungu on Wednesday took the first step towards the clean-up by firing Emerine Kabanshi as Community Development and Social Welfare Minister and gave Secretary to the Cabinet one week to give him concrete answers.
Meanwhile, the security wings have instituted investigations for alleged abuse of funds meant for the social cash transfer scheme which was being administered by the ministry of community development to benefit vulnerable groups as instructed by the President.
