Senior Chief Ngabwe of Central Province has called on Zambians to refuse at all costs the practice of witchcraft in Zambia as it is a Christian nation.
Chief Ngabwe who is also the House of chiefs’ chairperson has questioned the source of ideas concerning the introduction of intangible heritage course at the University of Zambia.
The traditional leader says Zambian chiefs are fighting hard to remove witchcraft from communities and introducing it at higher learning institutions will have a bad bearing on the learners and the outside world.
The chief also wants the witchcraft act to be relooked at and asked the person spearheading the program to seek advice from the Zambian chiefs.
According to the circular on Hot FM Facebook page, University of Zambia has received $340,000 from UNESCO to develop a degree program to safeguard Intangible Heritage with the first intake comprising of 20 students.
Intangible Heritage comprises of practices such as witchcraft, social practices such as expression through music, knowledge, skills, objects, artefacts and rituals.
