The Patriotic Front (PF) Party in Chongwe District has supported calls to relocate the street vendors conducting business along the Great East Road.
District PF Party Chairman Wiseman Tayali told a stakeholders meeting held yesterday in the council chamber that the party was worried and concerned with the problem of street vending at the township.
The PF Party Chairman was ready to support efforts to relocate the street vendors to designated trading places as a way of ending the illegal business.
And Chairman for Chongwe Main Market Geoffrey Mubiana has praised the PF leadership in the district for coming on board to support efforts to relocate the street vendors.
Mr. Mubiana said in the same meeting that without the support of the PF leadership it the district it is difficult to solve the problem of street vending.
He explained that the PF party leadership in the district is a critical stakeholder in the issue of ending street vending in the district because the PF party is the party in power.
Chongwe Council Secretary Carol Mkandawire has also thanked the PF leadership and other stakeholders in the district for supporting the move to relocate the street vendors to designated trading areas.
The stakeholders’ meeting was convened to find an amicable way of ending the streeting vending being conducted at the township along the Great East Road.
The gathering resolved that all the street vendors be relocated to designated areas as a way of ending the street vending.
