ON his way to school, a seven-year-old boy of Mkushi has been axed to death by a 36-year-old man who claims he does not know what came over him to end the child’s life in such a cruel manner.
Confirming the murder, Central Province police commissioner Lombe Kamukoshi said, “The motive of the killing is unknown as the suspect is saying he does not know what came over his mind to act in the manner that he did,” Ms Kamukoshi said.
She said Chalwe Chiyobwe met his fate after he was hacked in the neck by Rodger Chabaila of Mainsa village in Chief Chitina’s area.
The incident happened on Monday, between 06:20 hours and 07:30 hours, near Kalombe Primary School in Mainsa village as the boy was walking to school.
“The boy was a Grade One pupil at Kalombe Primary School. Police recovered the axe that was used to commit the crime at the scene,” Ms Kamukoshi said.
Chabaila has been apprehended and he is in police custody. while the deceased’s body is in Mkushi District Hospital.
