Zambia’s kwacha fell 2 percent to 9.58 per dollar on Thursday, weighed down by continued concerns over power supply in Africa’s number two copper producer and weakening copper prices.
One copper miner, China’s NFC Mining, has shut down some of its operations at its Zambian operations due to power supply problems, a union said on Wednesday.
