FORTY people have been admitted to Mwachisompola Health Demonstration Zone in Chibombo District after consuming suspected poisoned traditional drink ‘Munkoyo’ at a funeral.
Chibombo District Commissioner, Felix Mang’wato said the 40 people were admitted to the health zone after they complained of stomach pains after taking the drink.
Mr Mang’wato said it is alleged that the ‘Munkoyo’ was stored in a contaminated drum and after the people took the drink they developed stomach complications.
“It is alleged that the ‘Munkoyo’ was stored in a drum that was contaminated and after the people drunk the ‘Munkoyo’ they fell ill,” Mr Mang’wato said.
Mr Mang’wato said the 40 drunk the ‘Munkoyo’ on Saturday and on Sunday morning 30 out of the 40 people fell ill and were rushed to the health Zone while the other 10 were admitted yesterday.
He disclosed that the 40 are from Chabota area and they all complained of stomach pains, vomiting and high fever.
