Government has been commended for its commitment of ensuring that the nurses that were dismissed last year after staging an illegal strike get their jobs back.
Among government officials that have repeatedly urged the dismissed nurses to re-apply to get their jobs back is Permanent Secretary to the Cabinet Anne Sinyangwe who has recently further implored the fired nursed across the country to consider re-applying for their jobs.
And the Southern African Center for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (SACCORD), one of the civil society organizations that have commended government’s gesture has further called on it to act quickly in reinstating the jobless nurses once they have re-applied.
Executive Director Boniface Cheembe says government’s quick action to reinstate the nurses once they re-apply will demonstrate its commitment of sustaining job creation in the country.
Mr. Cheembe has also advised government to seriously put into consideration the concern that has been raised that some of the dismissed nurses may not get their terminal benefits they have already worked for even after they have been reinstated.
He says government should consider putting up measures to ensure the targeted dismissed nurses that are said may not receive their terminal benefits do get their benefits in full keeping it in mind that some of the fires nurses have only less than three before they could retire from public service.
The SACCORD Executive Director says putting up such measures will act as motivation for the dismissed nurses to re-apply for their lost jobs.
He has told Qfm news that it is for this reason that his organization is of the position that government considers the issue of terminal benefits of the jobless nurses seriously once they have been reinstated as the men and women in white uniforms have diligently served the nation.
