Traditional and civic leaders in Kalabo district have requested the area Member of Parliament to help them find a lasting solution to the communication problem being faced in the area.
Namulilo Ward Councillor Samuel Mutondo and Buleya Ward Councillor Oliver Mukonda Mandumbwa of Kalabo have bemoaned the poor communication network being experienced in their areas and Kalabo district as a whole.
Councillor Mutondo disclosed the communication problem to the area Member of Parliament Chinga Miyutu during a meeting held at Lukona Primary School yesterday.
He complained that Airtel had promised to put up a communication tower at Lukona once a plot was secured but has never done so despite reports by the local people to the communication company that land had been secured.
And, Mr. Mandumbwa also forwarded the same complaint to Mr. Miyutu during his visit to Muyumbana Primary School where the Kalabo parliamentarian had gone to conduct a stakeholders meeting.
Earlier, Chieftainess Mboanjikana of Kalabo district complained to Mr. Miyutu during his visit to her Libonda palace that her area was experiencing poor communication network, a situation she said was making her fail to communicate developmental challenges in the area with the relevant authorities.
Chieftainess Mboanjikana said she wondered why network was a problem in her chiefdom when a communication tower was just within her royal village.
The traditional leader has since asked Mr. Miyutu to utilize his position as a government leader to address the problem.
And Mr. Miyutu has since promised to take up the matter with the relevant authorities.
He also assured the traditional leader that he will find out the progress by the Zambia Information and Communication Technology Authority (ZICTA) in installing communication towers in selected areas of western province.
