Nakonde driver in court for causing death
Nakonde, April 3, 2013, ZANIS… A 30 year old man of Nakonde in Muchinga Province has appeared in the magistrate’s court for allegedly causing death by dangerous driving.
The offence is contrary to the laws of Zambia.
Appearing before Nakonde magistrate Joshua Sikazwe for mention yesterday was Bonson Siwakwi of Ntindi township in Chieftainess Nawaitwika’s area in Nakonde district.
The accused stands charged with one count of causing death by dangerous driving contrary to section 161(1) CAP 87 of the laws of Zambia
Siwakwi is alleged to have caused the death of a 27 –year old woman of Nakonde Florence Mulenga.
It is alleged that on March 23 this year Mulenga died on the spot near Barclays bank along the great north road after being hit by an unregistered Toyota Corolla which was being driven by Bonson Siwakwi.
Magistrate Sikazwe has since granted Siwakwi a KR 5000 bail in his own recognisance with three working sureties who should be residents of Nakonde.
The matter has been adjourned to April 17, 2013 for mention.
The fee for causing death in Zambia is around Kr500. Is Life is so cheap!!?
The police & RTSA should also work hard at the cause of these deaths and come up with a way to reduce them. Charging people with high sentences is not the solution. Measures meant to reduce accidents is a good start
