LUA-LUO Bee keeping company director Ronald Mwamba has challenged bee keepers in the northern and Muchinga provinces to increase production of the honey.
Mr Mwamba said there is readily available export market for the Zambian honey.
Mr. Mwamba said bee keepers should double their production levels to adequately cater for the local and import market which requires more honey.
He pointed out that bee keepers currently produce less honey to accommodate exports as the commodity is on high demand on the international market.
Mr. Mwamba appealed for more community participation in bee keeping as the business is cheap to run as the operational costs are less demanding.
He also disclosed that the department of Forestry has embarked on a sensitization campaign to enhance bee keeping programmes in the two regions.
Mr Mwamba also said that the Forestry department provides training facilities to community members at no cost and urged them to take advantage by actively participating in bee keeping in order to benefit from the trade.
