Government has urged the people of Mpulungu in Northern Province to be on high alert against Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) and other communicable diseases.
Health Deputy Minister Chitalu Chilufya says Mpulungu , being a border town, is prone to communicable diseases through illegal immigrants.
He said it is for this reason that there is need for the community to be proactive and take-up prevention measures.
Dr, Chilufya was speaking during the official opening of a one-day Ebola Sensitisation meeting for community leaders held at Mpulungu secondary school on Wednesday last week.
He observed that most people in the border town were not aware of the dangers of harboring people from other countries hence government’s decision to create Ebola awareness among civic leaders and traditional rulers.
Dr Chilufya said this is to make them as surveillance agents in disease control.
He urged the people of Mpulungu to look-out for people and domestic animals that come into the country illegally as they could be a source of disease outbreaks which may result in severe impairments and deaths.
