CHIEF Chiwanagala of the Bisa people has called on Government to gazette sub-chiefs of Chilubi to enhanced economic development through effective representation.
The traditional leader has also said that he will not entertain politicians who stir and promote tribalism.
“We will discard any person or leader who may want to champion tribalism in our districts,’’ the chief said at the commissioning of National Savings and Credit Bank (NATSAVE) yesterday.
Chief Chiwanagala, who spoke through his representative, Martin Talanki, said that the district is too big to have only two chiefdoms – Chiwanagala and Matipa.
“We, therefore, humbly request Government to consider establishing some sub chiefs into gazetted chiefs, that is, Chitunkubwe, Mwanakasabi, Fube and Mwape Kalunga,” Chief Chiwanagala said.
He also said chiefs in the area will continue supporting Government programmes, particularly in the fight against child marriages and gender-based violence.
“Thus, we pledge to be active stakeholders in the massive infrastructure development that Government has engaged in,” he said.
In response, Finance Minister Alexander Chikwanda said there is need to promote love, unity and fellowship to foster economic development.
On the appeal to gazette sub-chiefs, Mr Chikwanda said he will deliver the message to his counterpart in the Ministry of Chiefs and Traditional Affairs.
The minister also encouraged the residents to work hard to be self-sustaining instead of waiting for Government hand-outs.
