Kambwili calls for calm over load shedding

CHIEF Government spokesperson Chishimba Kambwili has called on Zambians to remain calm as Government is doing all it can to reduce load shedding and restore normal power supply.

Mr Kambwili, who is Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services, said Government regrets the continued load shedding.
Mr Kambwili, however, said the power deficit being experienced in the country is beyond human imagination.

“Our position as Government is that we should look at two issues – that is importation of power from our neighbouring countries and also look at other possible sources of energy like renewable energy,” he said.
The minister said this in Lusaka on Wednesday when he addressed the media.

Mr Kambwili said Government is looking at other sources of energy like solar panels, and coal-powered generation of electricity.
“We are also going to try anything possible to try and mitigate this shortage of electricity,” he said.

Mr Kambwili also appealed to Zambians not to accept any political capital out of the power deficit.
He challenged anybody saying they could have done better than the Patriotic Front (PF) Government to tell the nation how they can increase water levels in the Zambezi and Kafue rivers.

Mr Kambwili said ‘politicking just for the sake of politicking’ will not help anybody and there is need to put heads together to find ways of mitigating the problem,

“The power deficit is everywhere; even Eskom in South Africa, which is bigger than Zesco, is facing a terrible situation in as far as power generation is concerned
“So let us remain united and plan together about this issue as Government and Zesco work to find a solution to this problem,” Mr Kambwili said.
