–At least 15 cattle have died of suspected Contagious Bovine Plural-Pneumonia (CBPP) at Dikolonga, about 150 kilometres north-west of Kabompo town centre.
Kabompo District Commissioner, Dennis Kanyakula, has confirmed the development to ZANIS in Kabompo today.
Mr Kanyakula said according to a livestock disease surveillance report from the District Agriculture Coordinator‘s Office (DACO), suspected CBPP has claimed 15 to 20 cattle in Dikolonga between February and April this year.
The report further indicated that a skin disease diagnosed as mange mite has claimed several goats in the area within the same period.
The report highlights that the outbreak of the diseases is due to partial observance of the stock movement ban by farmers and traders in areas along the border with Angola from Zambezi to Mwinilung’a where the only means of transport is suspected unvaccinated work oxen.
