-Hundreds of Mongu residents today gathered at the airport to welcome His Excellency President Michael Sata who was visiting the area for the first time since his election.
President Sata who touched down at Mongu airport aboard a Zambian Air Force plane at 10:16 hours was accompanied by Home Affairs Minister Edgar Lungu, Commerce Minister Emmanuel Chenda among others.
The President later was received by Gender Minister Inonge Wina, Community Development Deputy Minister Jean Kapata, Western Province Minister Obvious Mwaliteta, North Western Province Minister Nathaniel Mubukwanu, Provincial Permanent Secretary Emmanuel Mwamba, Provincial heads of departments and Party officials.
Mr Sata later left the airport for Limulunga Royal Village where he paid a courtesy call on His Majesty the Litunga Lubosi Imwiko II.
President Sata left Mongu for Mitete district after meeting the Litunga.
While in Mitete, the President is scheduled to hold two political rallies at Muyondoti and Mitete areas to drum up support for PF candidate Elieen Imbwae.
The President is expected to return to Lusaka this evening.
