———-Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) Mandia Ward Councillor Brighton Mwampole has commended the Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA) for gunning down an elephant that killed three people of Kazungula district yesterday.
Mr. Mwampole who is also Kazungula District Council Vice Chairman said he was also impressed with the response from some government departments who rushed to the scenes of the incidences.
He said it is important that people in rural communities work hand in hand with their area Councillors on issues that affect their lives so that when need arises, help can be rendered to them at an appropriate time.
Mr. Mwampole was speaking to ZANIS in a telephone interview today.
He expressed sadness over what happened yesterday and also asked government to assist the bereaved families with food or any other assistance during the funeral period.
Yesterday, three people identified as Rosemary Kankole of Sekute ward, Chuuma Siabene and Francis Mufana of Mandia ward met their fate while in their fields when a lone elephant attacked them in separate intervals.
Police officers from Kazungula and Livingstone districts rushed to the scenes of the incidences and took the bodies of the deceased to Livingstone General Hospital mortuary.
Meanwhile, officers from Zambia Wild Life Authority managed to gun down the elephant between 11:00 and 12:00 hours yesterday.
