GOVERNMNT will soon issue a ministerial statement on the revised mineral royalty tax.
This came to light in Parliament on Wednesday after Monze Central member of Parliament (MP) Jack Mwimbu made a point of order on whether Government is in order to keep quiet and not update the House on the issues surrounding the mineral royalty tax.
Mr Mwimbu also expressed concern that Government has been issuing conflicting statements surrounding the matter.
“Mining houses have expressed concern over the revised value added tax on mineral royalties and currently, Lumwana is under care and maintenance. Is this government in order to keep quiet over this issue,” he said.
He said mining is the main backbone of the country and people have to know what measures Government is putting in place to ensure that miners’ jobs are protected.
Mr Mwimbu said the House also wants to know what it will do to ensure that the budget is not affected if the payment of mining taxation is deferred.
But in his ruling, Speaker of the National Assembly Patrick Matibini said Government has already sought permission to issue a statement on the matter within this week.
