HIV positive inmates on special diet-Kagoli

The Zambia Prisons Service has disclosed that it provides special meals to HIV positive inmates.

Prison Service Public Relations Officer Stephen Kagoli said the special meals for HIV positive inmates were provided through the Ministry of Health, nongovernmental organisations (NGO) and the church.

Mr. Kagoli told ZANIS in a telephone interview in Lusaka today that the Prisons Service has enhanced the provision of health care for HIV positive inmates through its medical doctors who treat inmates that are on antiretroviral treatment.

He also said the Prison Service regularly receives food supplements for HIV positive inmates from the Ministry of Health, NGOs such as the Prisons Care and Counselling Association and the Catholic Church.

Mr. Kagoli further said when an HIV positive inmate is transferred to another prison, all their medical files are also transferred with them for easy access to treatment.
