The Immigration department in Nakonde has arrested a Nigerian national for forging Immigration stamps for Nakonde border control post.
Both Immigration department Public Relations Officer Justine Siame and Nakonde district commissioner James Singoyi have confirmed the development in separate telephone interviews with the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS) in Chinsali today.
Mr. Singoyi said the Nigerian national who has been identified as Sam-Udoh Emmanuel using passport number A 01560231, attempted to make entry into Zambia on an approved visa from the Zambian Mission in Tanzania.
He forged the entry stamp number NAK 145 and exit number 146.
Mr. Singoyi said Emmanuel who is currently detained at Nakonde police station will appear in court tomorrow on Wednesday.
And Immigration Public Relations Officers Justine Siame has implored Immigration Officers manning border posts to ensure that all persons entering the country have proper documents.
Mr. Siame has also disclosed that the Immigration department will soon beef up the staff levels at Chinsali which has been upgraded to a regional office following the creation of Muchinga Province and declaration of Chinsali district as the provincial headquarters.
He told ZANIS in an interview today that more Immigration officers will be sent to Chinsali district which currently has only two officers who include the regional Immigration officer and her deputy.
Meanwhile, the district commissioner in Nakonde has appealed to the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) at Nakonde not allow mealie meal to be smuggled out of the country.
Mr. Singoyi said he is so far happy that the ZRA and the police have done a good job in as far as controlling the smuggling of mealie meal is concerned.
