Govt to review MOU with India’s Apollo group of Hospitals
Lusaka, March 22nd, 2013,ZANIS–Government has expressed gratitude for the quality specialized medical attention Apollo Group of Hospitals in India is rendering to the Zambians who are referred there.
Health Minister Dr. Joseph Kasonde however says there is need to review the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between Zambia and Apollo Group of Hospitals in order to make it more responsive to Zambia’s pressing health needs.
Minister said this yesterday when he toured Apollo Group of Hospitals in New Delhi renowned for world class medical specialties which includes organ transplants.
Dr. Kasonde who was taken round the hospital by Senior General Manager Dr. Harinder Sidhu cited the need to building capacity for Zambian doctors to carryout organ transplants as one of the benefits Zambia wanted to derive from the partnership with Apollo Group of Hospitals.
The Minister added that enhancement of Information Technology in the health sector would also help Zambia deliver quality health care.

And Apollo Hospital Managing Director for New Delhi Dr Jaideep Gupta expressed willingness to have the MOU strengthened in all areas that would help Zambia build capacity in health delivery and medical education.
The current MOU entered into last year provides for collaboration in health care under which Zambian patients recommended for specialized treatment abroad, are referred to India.
Under the MOU Zambian doctors and paramedics also undergo short exchange programmes in specialized fields such as cancer treatment.
Apollo also conducts annual medical camps in Zambia.
Dr. Kasonde was accompanied on the tour of the Hospital by Ministry of Health Deputy Director for Clinical Care and Diagnostics Services Dr. Lisulo Walusiku.
Dr. Kasonde was in India as part of Vice President Guy Scott’s delegation to the just ended 9th Confederation of India Industries (CII) Exim-Bank Conclave: India-Africa Project Partnership.
