The Caretaker Committee of the Zambia Association of Musicians (ZAM) has declared its preparedness to conduct the ZAM elections to usher in a new executive.
The committee has since set May 27, 2014 as the day for the elections to be held in Chisamba.
The committee stated that after an extensive consultative process, it has developed a roadmap that would ensure that elections were held in a transparent and clearly structured manner.
It disclosed this in a statement released to ZANIS in Lusaka today.
The committee has further encouraged members of ZAM to nominate candidates for the elections.
It stated that ZAM can collect nomination forms from the National Arts Council Secretariat at Acacia House along Cairo Road or any of the offices for the provincial cultural officer located in all provincial headquarters.
It said only paid up members will be eligible to stand for elections adding that nominations will close on 2nd May at 17:00 hours.
As regards to the election meeting, the committee disclosed that five delegates from each province will attend and they will be joined by the outgoing ZAM Nation Executive Committee (NEC) as stated in the association’s constitution.
The committee said the delegates will be given an opportunity to vote on how the elections will be conducted before the actual polls are undertaken.
It said the resources for the elections have been sourced from ZAM partners SHARe II and the National Arts Council of Zambia.
The committee has since appealed to ZAM members and stakeholders to support this process so that the issues in association can be resolved and the association can continue its role in developing the country through job creation, income generation and positive social impact.
