Kalabo District Hospital has announced that it will soon start screening travellers between Zambia and Angola for possible Ebola virus.
District Medical Officer Arthur Mutuna told ZANIS in an interview that there is a lot of cross border trade between Zambia and Angola hence the need to have travellers screened.
Dr Mutuna noted that even though there has never been any proof of an Ebola outbreak in Angola, it is only prudent that the local district health office embarks on the screening exercise to safeguard the lives of residents.
He said the district has not yet recorded any Ebola case despite the ongoing cross border trade and assured residents that District Hospital is well equipped and ready to handle any possible outbreak of the deadly disease.
Dr Mutuna said despite lacking funds his department will work in collaboration with the immigration department to effectively carry out the screening exercise in the district.
