Agriculture Minister Wylbur Simuusa has urged the private sector to supply urea fertiliser on the market because Government will only produce a limited amount at the Nitrogen Chemicals of Zambia- NCZ.
Mr. Simuusa has told ZNBC News that NCZ has focused on producing basal dressing fertiliser but that it will also produce urea in small quantities.
He says he will flag off distribution of fertiliser for the 2014/2015 farming season in the first week of May.
Meanwhile, Mr. Simuusa says the rains that have hit some parts of the Country were unexpected.
Mr. Simuusa however, says maize fields are not likely to be affected because most farmers planted late.
He has noted that regions such as Eastern, Southern Provinces may face challenges because of the early maturing varieties they planted.
