At least 38 pupils have dropped out of school at MABUMBA Secondary School in Mansa district due to pregnancies. School Head Teacher, ALEX CHIMBULE has attributed the development to lack of boarding facilities at the school which is situated about 21 kilometers from Mansa District. Mr. CHIMBULE told a ZNBC news that over FIVE hundred pupils are forced to rent makeshifts in the nearby village for fear of walking long distances from various villages. He said this development has resulted in the girls either being raped or engaging in child prostitution for survival. And one of the pupils, RABBECA SUNGUNI complained that their lives are in danger as the men in the same village constantly abuse the unsuspecting girls.
Meanwhile, Mansa Central Member of Parliament, CHITALU CHILUFYA has pledged to facilitate the construction of boarding facilities at the school. Dr. CHILUFYA who is also Health Deputy Minister said the school is strategically positioned to service most children in Mabumba chiefdom
