Mufumbwe District in North Western province has recorded more than 800 examination entries for grade 12 and General Certificate of Education (GCE) this year.
And more than 3,300 have entered for grade nine and seven examinations in the district.
Acting Education Standards Officer Stovey Kashale says this year 401 and 418 candidates have entered for grade 12 and GCE respectively.
In an interview with ZANIS in Mufumbwe, Mr Kashale stated that this is about three per cent more than the previous year.
Mr Kashale added that the increase is mainly due to improved sensitization in the communities on the importance of education.
“As compared to last year there has been an increase in the number of entries for GCE and grade 12, we are therefore aiming to complete the syllabus on time to ably prepare the candidates,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mr Kashale says 1,553 and 1,819 pupils have entered for grade seven and grade nine examinations in the district respectively.
The Acting Education Standards Officer, further stated that the number of entries for grade nine this year is comparatively higher than last year.
He said this is because of two newly created exam centres at Mufumbwe and Kashima day schools.
“We had 29 examination centres but now we have 32, this has helped us decongest other centres and also increase on the entries” he said
Mr Kashale has since expressed hope that most of the registered candidates will turn up for the examinations.
